Activities & walks with your dog
in Garmisch-Partenkirchen
A walk round Lake Eibsee
Turquoise-blue water, dense forest and the Zugspitze always in view: a walk around Lake Eibsee is lovely, even on four paws. The circular route runs for around 7 kilometres along the shore and offers plenty of little coves where you can stop for a break. Put your dog on a lead, pack up your furry friend and set off for a walk.
You can reach the Eibsee by car or, for a more relaxed journey, by the Zugspitzbahn.
Walk to the Kramerspitz
The Kramerspitz is perfect for anyone who enjoys hiking to enjoy the views. Together with your dog, you’ll head up along forest and mountain paths, whilst Garmisch-Partenkirchen gets a little smaller with every metre you climb. Sturdy footwear, water for both two-legged and four-legged friends, and a good level of fitness are essential, whether you’re heading all the way to the summit or just part of the way.
HENRI’s tip: If, for once, you fancy getting up very early on holiday, you’ll be rewarded with a stunning view at sunrise.
Walk to Lake Rießer
Lake Rießersee lies above Garmisch-Partenkirchen and is a brilliant spot for a walk with your dog. First, you head up through the woods, then at the top you’ll find the lake set against an impressive mountain backdrop. It’s perfect for a break by the water before heading back down to the valley together. That’s what walking the dog on holiday is all about.
A trip to the Partnach Gorge
Roaring water, steep rock faces and narrow paths right in the middle of it all: the Partnach Gorge turns a walk with the dog into a little adventure. Dogs are also allowed through the gorge, provided they are kept on a lead and are comfortable on narrow, sometimes wet paths.
SUP on Lake Barm
Lake Barm near Krün is the perfect spot for a relaxing day by the water. It’s particularly lovely on a SUP: if your dog likes the water and feels at ease on the board, you can paddle across the lake together. Mountain views included.
Climbing uphill on four legs.
After all, a holiday in the mountains with your dog wouldn’t be half as enjoyable if your dog had to wait at the bottom. Around Garmisch-Partenkirchen, many mountain railways allow four-legged friends to join you on the ascent without any strenuous climbing.
Bavarian Zugspitze Railway: For €8.00, your dog can travel up with you on the cable car and rack railway.
Karwendelbahn in Mittenwald: For €7.90, your four-legged friend can come along. At the top, there are stunning mountain views in the heart of a nature reserve.
Laberbergbahn in Oberammergau: A touch nostalgic, rather cosy and with superb views. Dogs can travel up to the Laber for €5.00.*
HENRI tip: It’s best to pack a lead and a muzzle. Depending on the mountain railway and the situation, both may be compulsory.
Please note that the prices quoted are subject to change at any time.
One more round to go.
You don’t need to plan anything too elaborate for the last outing of the day: from HENRI, you can simply take a stroll with your dog straight into the centre of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Along the way, you’ll come across traditional houses with Lüftlmalerei, small shops, cafés and restaurants. There’s plenty to see around the historic Frühlingstraße and Marienplatz before you head back to HENRI at a leisurely pace.
The town centre is just a few minutes’ walk from the HENRI Hotel.
Please note: Dogs must be kept on a leash in the centre of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
